Better Than Good Granola

Our family loves granola.  My husband and boys love to eat it with milk and I like a bit in my yogurt.  We started looking for a good granola recipe a couple of years ago because we didn’t really like the granola from the store-too banana-y or blueberry-y- and it was too expensive for our liking.

We tried a couple and didn’t like them and then luckily found this one.  It is really the best.  We try and keep it stocked up and sometimes that means making it twice a week, but it’s worth it.  And it’s so easy the kids can join in.

Granola

7 cups of oats (old fashioned or quick)

1/2 cup oil

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/2 cup honey

2 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp cinnamon

Directions: Heat oil, brown sugar and honey in a small sauce pan until boiling.  Turn off heat and stir in vanilla and cinnamon.  Pour over the oats in a large bowl and mix until coated.  Put mixture in a greased 9×13 pan and cook at 375 degrees for 10 min.  Turn off oven and stir granola around in the pan.  Put pan back in oven (remember it’s turned off) and leave in overnight (or 6 or so hours if making it in the daytime).  Remove from pan and crunch up into an airtight container for storage.

(As you can see we use off brand and it still tastes good : )

If you like it as much as we do, and I can almost garauntee that, one thing I have to advise is that if you are going to make a double batch, continue cooking it in seperate 9×13 pans in seperate cooking times.  Also, only cook in clear pyrex pans, not colored or metal.  Believe me, I’ve made the mistakes so I don’t want you to have to.
