It’s In The Bag

We’ve tried quite a few food storage options in the past trying to find on that will work for us.  We strongly believe we need to be prepared, we just need to find something we will actually use in an emergency.  We are not the wheat grinding type of people.  We have settled on a few things and have mixed and matched strategies.  This book is one thing that we have tried and it is actually really easy and tasty.

There are over 100 ideas for meals in a bag.  All you do is put the ingredients in the bag and then when you need it, you grab the bag and make it according to the directions.  We eat on every once in a while before it expires and it tastes like any other meal you would make  any regular day.  Here’s one we love.

Shepherd’s Pie

1 (6.4 oz) package instant potatoes

3 cups water

1 15 oz can green beans, drained

1 10.75 oz can condensed tomato soup

1 15 oz can corn

1 12 oz can roast beef or 1 pint home-canned hamburger

1 8 oz canned cheddar cheese, shredded


3 Tbsp. powdered milk

Spices of choice

Pre-heat oven to 350F.  Prepare instant potatoes according to the package directions using water and powdered milk.  Mix green beans, tomato soup, corn and hamburger in a 2.5 quart casserole dish.  Spread prepared potatoes over the mixture.  top with shredded cheddar cheese.  Bake uncovered for 25 minutes.
