I remember sleeping with my Mom’s bathrobe when I was little.
I used to be scared at night and my Mom gave me her bathrobe to sleep with.
For some reason, it comforted me. I would just snuggle up with it and feel all warm inside, just like my Mom was right there with me.
I slept with it for years, until I switched it for this giant stuffed reindeer.
I continued to sleep with the stuffed reindeer until the weekend before I got married.
And I was 24 years old when I got married!
The day that I got rid of that reindeer was a sad day for me, but I didn’t think that Jon would appreciate snuggling up to a reindeer at night. Although, in retrospect, I suppose it would have more fully prepared him for being a Daddy and having his kids continuously in and out of our bed! 🙂
Anyway, Lizzie has been feeling scared at night recently.
She has been coming into our bedroom at night quite consistently. She never goes to Jon’s side of the bed. It’s always me that she wakes up and has to get up and return her to her bed.
Then a few weeks ago I had an epiphany.
Why not give her my bathrobe to sleep with?
It worked for my mom, perhaps it will work for me as well.
She hasn’t been back in our room at night for two weeks!
She loves my bathrobe!
It’s way too big for her, but she puts it on every single night and sleeps with it like a blanket.
She says that it’s just like I’m cuddling with her all night long.
It’s the sweetest thing in the world.
Thanks, Mom, for giving me the idea!
Are your kids having trouble sleeping at night?
Perhaps a bathrobe is in order! 🙂
